Come explore Washington Island

The time to reopen Fragrant Isle Lavender Farm and Shop draws near.  May 1st. 2015 marks the day the doors are thrown open and visitors are welcomed back. It’s been a long winter and everyone is eager to get back to work at the farm.

As Fragrant Isle Lavender Farm prepares for the upcoming season other businesses that serve the summer tourists are gearing up for another great year, as well. It won’t be long before Washington Island is teeming with visitors all looking to experience a little bit of the magic that makes Washington Island a destination worth visiting.

If asked to articulate the one thing that makes a trip to Washington Island so special, the answer would have to be the people. There is an inherent kindness and friendliness among the folk who reside on Washington Island year round. It matters not if you are walking, biking or driving a car, you are certain to get a wave from anyone approaching from the opposite direction. And, it is considered good island manners, to wave back. Islanders are quick to give directions, make a recommendation and share what it is that makes Washington Island unique.

Of course, there is also the scenic beauty of Washington Island. Visitors can hike, walk, run, kayak, bicycle or drive around this 23.51 sq. mile island. For a comprehensive overview of the many parks and beaches visit www.washingtonisland.com or www.washingtonisland-wi.com.  These sites also offer information about travel to and from the island; accommodations and the many attractions open to visitors. Both sites are also host to information regarding the many events held throughout the year.

While there are many events that take place during the summer on Washington Island, Fragrant Isle Lavender Farm is most excited about the first annual Lavender Festival to be held July 24, 25, 26 of 2015. The lavender fields will be bursting with blooms and fragrance. There will be many fun things in store for those that choose to visit during this time. Visitors to the lavender farm will be invited to walk the fields and cut fresh lavender. The farm staff will be hosting a variety of informative seminars for interested parties on many different topics. Of course, it would not be a lavender festival without music and no celebration is complete without good food and drink! It is also rumored that there will be Faeries making an appearance at the festival. And last, but not least, Fragrant Isle Lavender Farm will offer plants available for purchase at this time. More information regarding the plant sale is forthcoming.

Come for a visit this summer. Escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy the tranquility of Washington Island. Tune out hectic schedules and tune into some well-deserved relaxation. Walk the beaches and spend a night under clear, starry skies. Come tour Fragrant Isle Lavender Farm and enjoy a specialty treat at our very own Le Petit Bistro. We hope to welcome you soon and share a bit of Washington Island magic with you!

Hi, Martine! I would be one of the first in attendance at your Lavender Festival, except that I will be on another island, Mackinac Island in Michigan. But I look forward to seeing you again when we come to Door County and Washington Island in late August! I hope it is a wonderful 3 days for you!
